A DAY THAT FELT LIKE THE PERFECT SUMMER ROMANCE
Do you ever have one of those days that feels like it came straight out of a storybook? Or one that felt like you were in the perfect scene in a movie? That’s what this day felt like, and this session came straight out of a god damn fairytale.
Banff, Canmore, and other parts of the mountains in Alberta are usually the most popular. After living here for 3 years, I’ve grown more fond of the road less travelled, and now try to find places are are more off the beaten path. This place is one of them. Sheep River Provincial Park, and the surrounding southern areas of Alberta honestly give you a better feel of what Alberta is really like other than National Parks in the mountains. you feel that western vibe, and the drive to this location is one of my most favourite drives in the world. IT’s perfect for those little day trips in the summer, or a drive blaring the music just for fun.
you’ll see in the 2 photo below an actual BEAR!! Yes…. It’s small in the photo because it was a ways away, but just because you’re not in Banff doesn’t mean you won’t have your encounters with wildlife! Distance was kept, and Leave No Trace rules were followed, which you can learn more about here.
Anyways…
If you recognize these two before, it’s because these dear friends of mine have let me photograph their adventures on multiple locations. And we’ve had plenty of adventures together as we all went to high school together! I even go to be a part of their wedding a few years ago! They helped me out so much when they finally convinced me to move out here, and I’m so happy they’ve continued to let me be their photographer for life 😝 If you want to see the time that we did an an all day adventure session for their engagement.
Even though we’ve done sessions in the past, this was the first that BOTH their fur babies were with us, so they wanted to document this part of their family’s life!
Ellie (brown & black dog) and Sadie (black & white dog) are two of my homegirls, and two of Moose’s favourite cousins! It was a hoot having the two of them be able to run around the field we had essentially to ourselves, and being able to catch up and have a good time!
Im’ma be real honesty with y’all here and give you a tip for if you ever have a session in the mountains: expect poop. Sounds weird, but I’m serious. Some people forget that we’re in actual nature where animals and wildlife roam, and ti isn’t maintained…meaning…well…they poop….wherever they feel like it. Which means there is the chance that where we’ll be roaming,…. you’re gunna have to look out for poop. Half the time we were running in this field it was like playing hopscotch around poop from cattle and elk and mountain sheep! Still fun, but fun because we kept an eye out not to step in any 😝
Sadie (left) and Ellie (right) two sweethearts right here.
As the summer heat was really starting’ to hit us, we let the pups cool down in the car, and pulled out my little portable BBQ to make some homemade personal pizzas and enjoy a couple bevvies of course! Hanging out with Jill & Joe in general I always love, but being able to capture this part of their story means so much to me, hence the term ‘storybook session’ !
