IN PETER LOUGHEED PROVINCIAL PARK
I don’t think I can think of a better way to spend a summer night than canoeing on a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains with your partner, and spending the night under the stars.
Ashley & Brandon were getting excited for their wedding later that summer, and we connected through instagram over our love of canoeing & camping! So josh, Moose & I made a spontaneous camping reservation at Elkwood campground in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park where Ashley & Brandon would be camping for Ashleys birthday!
We met up at their campsite, and bonded over a couple beers and a good campfire. As the sun started to go down, we made our way to Upper Kananaskis Lake, which is known for its incredible views, boat friendly area, and decent fishing. Learn more about boating on Upper Kananaskis Lake here! (please remember to follow safety guidelines and to not paddle if you are not experienced!) And find more about camping in the park here!
Ashley & Brandon had told me all about their love for fishing and canoeing together, as they already had this plan- I just happen to be able to join along 🙂 So I knew that this would be the perfect setting for them to be themselves & be abel to just…. y’know, hang out. And do what they were gunna do anyway- just have memories to look back on from this night!
No fish were caught, but it didn’t even matter because these two were just soakin’ up the vibe!!!!!! You could tell how excited they were to spend the rest of their lives together!
As the sun went down, we parked the canoe on the shore of the lake and went to take in the post-sunset-twilight sky that was this incredible purple-pink colour. I was so happy that they were able to have this experience before their wedding, and to celebrate Ashley’s birthday. Honestly one of my favourite nights of the summer getting to spend the rest of the night under the stars. Thank you Ashley & Brandon for putting all your trust in me to capture this part of your adventure- one of those storybook unique beautiful nights for sure!
